Once upon a time there was this killer road up in NC called US 129….Deals Gap. then a bunch of tourists discovered the place, nicknamed it “the dragon”, crashed a lot, pissed off the locals and pissed off the cops. Luckily you can spot these squids by the T-shirts and stickers. They even created a shrine…the tree of shame, where you can add chunks of broken body work from your crashes. If for a second you think you can ride like this guy just pretend you can, order some stickers on-line and don’t bother visiting the place. This means you squids…yes you, the ones who show up pulling a trailer & either riding in no gear or riding a race bike with slicks and no lights. but this video was pretty good :-)
these dudes are off on an epic journey from Atlanta to Nova Scotia
Source: halemotoHello to everyone! Today was the start of our East Coast journey. We left around 7am and had a great morning ride. The weather was nice and we managed to escape Atlanta traffic before it became worse. We started the trip off right with a hearty Cracker Barrel breakfast. We journeyed through the north west corner of Georgia through Trenton and made our way into Tennessee. I pissed off a trucker, mainly because he wasn’t let us past him on the left lane. Aren’t they supposed to stay to the right anyways? We continued through a scorching hot Tennessee, trying to stay off the interstate as much as we could. After passing through Kentucky, we made a quick stop at the Corvette Factory. We walked inside and looked around but decided we didn’t have time to make the tour if we wanted to do a Mammoth Cave tour. We ended up at the mouth of Mammoth Cave for our camping tonight. We managed to take a nice evening tour through the cave that was candle lit with kerosene lanterns. Total mileage today: 354
Safely Riding,
the Hales
P.S. We hope to have some video soon, but it takes a little longer than photos.
wouldn’t it be hilarious if you crashed with your helmet strapped to your bike….?

Finally, the weather cleared. My Saab has fresh rubber. Grab my sleeping bag, my coffee maker, a couple of books & I’m off to Denver to snatch up a BMW R69S. I will report from the road…

When you think “hardcore” biker you don’t normally imagine a dude on a Moped Trip…

In 1978, after running up a pile of miles on a Mobylette moped, Walter Muma took his 49c moped with 22,000 miles on it apart for spares & bought a new one. He then loaded up his gear, took off & rode the new one from Ontario, Canada to Fairbanks, AK & back again.
Walter thoroughly documents his trip with tons of pictures and commentary on his trip. He also goes into details regarding his experience, gear, packing, and preperation for the trip. He has also documents other riders from around the world who’ve taken moped trips as well. I found this particular travel story inspiring to say the least.
See you on the road…
